Kyrgyzstan, Turkey strengthen relations by signing six new documents

Ankara, Apr. 9, 2018 / Kabar /. Meetings of presidents of Kyrgyzstan and Turkey are held in Ankara in narrow and enlarged formats.

The meeting of President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov with his colleague Recep Tayyip Erdogan took place in the Palace of the President of Turkey.

As a result of the talks, the sides signed six documents, which indicate further strengthening of bilateral relations between the two states.

- Agreement between the Governments of Kyrgyzstan and Turkey on mutual encouragement and protection of investments;

- Agreement between the Governments of Kyrgyzstan and Turkey in the field of agriculture;

- Agreement between the Governments of Kyrgyzstan and Turkey on physical culture and sports;

- Agreement between the Governments of Kyrgyzstan and Turkey on cooperation in the field of technical regulation, standardization, conformity assessment, accreditation and metrology;

- Agreement between the Governments of Kyrgyzstan and Turkey on social security;

- Protocol on cooperation between the Governments of Kyrgyzstan and Turkey in the field of press and information.

Diplomatic relations between Kyrgyzstan and Turkey were established on Dec. 24, 1991 and Turkey was the first to recognize the independence of Kyrgyzstan. In Oct. of the same year, the Embassy of Kyrgyzstan was opened in Ankara, and it became the first diplomatic mission of the republic abroad. In Apr. 1994, the Government decided to establish the Consulate General in Istanbul.

The relations between Kyrgyzstan and Turkey are based on the common history, culture, language and religion of the two fraternal peoples. The principles of bilateral cooperation are based on the generally accepted norms of international law and on the mutual recognition of national interests, as well as equality and friendship.
