Kyrgyzstan, UK discuss issues of strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation

Bishkek, Nov. 19, 2024 . / Kabar / . Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs, Defense, Security and Migration of the Jogorku Kenesh Ulan Primov met with UK Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan, the press service of the Kyrgyz Parliament said.

The meeting was also attended by head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group of the Jogorku Kenesh on cooperation with the Parliament of Great Britain Zhanarbek Akaev, Director of the National Democratic Institute (NDI) Dan Redford and Chief of Staff of the Jogorku Kenesh Alaibek Alymbaev.

The parties discussed issues of strengthening inter-parliamentary ties, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation.

Ulan Primov noted that Kyrgyzstan is ready to create all necessary conditions to attract investments for projects in the field of hydropower, renewable energy within the framework of "green" economy.

"We urge British investors to pay attention to the road sector and issues of modernization of railway transport, which affect the strengthening of economic integration in Central Asia," he said.

In turn, Ambassador Nicholas Bowler informed about the increase in the indicators of cooperation in the field of education, as well as employment of Kyrgyz citizens in England.

He added that he is waiting for proposals for the implementation of long-term programs in other areas.

MP Zhanarbek Akayev raised the issue of expanding partnership with NDI.

"With the support of this organization, an expert examination of important draft laws was conducted and it gave results. It would be good if NDI continues to provide assistance in order to adopt quality bills," he concluded.

At the end of the meeting, having identified further areas of cooperation, the sides voiced proposals for the development of bilateral cooperation.
