Bishkek, Dec. 5, 2020 /Kabar/. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Ruslan Kazakbaev met on Friday with Regional Representative of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights for Central Asia Richard Komenda, the press service of the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry reported.
During the meeting, the importance and symbolism of location in Kyrgyzstan the only regional office and the key UN agency such as OHCHR was emphasized, which corresponds to the country's efforts to ensure human rights and freedoms.
The OHCHR Regional Office for Central Asia (ROCA) was established in 2008 in Bishkek and currently covers all five countries in the region: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
Richard Komenda has been working as the Head of the OHCHR Regional Office since May 2016.
The sides exchanged views on the upcoming constitutional reform, and noted the need for comprehensive and thorough discussion of the draft Constitution of the Kyrgyz Republic in the coming months. In particular, the importance of participation, expert assessment and consultations of international partners on the draft Basic Law was emphasized.
Issues of cooperation within the UN Office in Geneva, creation of a regional center on digital technologies for youth, training of civil servants in international human rights standards, ensuring the right to health for all in the context of vaccination against COVID-19, interaction with international human rights ratings were also discussed, and consultations on cooperation in the fight against corruption and organized crime were held.
The parties noted the importance of maintaining a constant and active dialogue on all issues of interest in the field of human rights and freedoms.
