Kyrgyzstan, UNODC debate co-op in combating illegal drug trafficking

Bishkek, June 10, 2021. / Kabar / . Chairman of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) of the Kyrgyz Republic Kamchybek Tashiev met with Head of the UNODC Program Office in the Kyrgyz Republic Andrey Seleznev.

The SCNS press service reported that the sides discussed areas of cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking, corruption, counterterrorism and cybercrime.

Lieutenant General Kamchybek Tashiev mentioned the largest seizures of heroin and other drugs in the history of Kyrgyzstan with a total weight of more than a ton, as well as high-profile arrests in the fight against corruption and organized crime over the past six months, which is an indicator of an uncompromising fight in these areas.

In turn, Andrey Seleznev confirmed the importance of these achievements of the Kyrgyz Republic in combating drug trafficking, and expressed readiness to provide the necessary assistance to the initiatives of the SCNS from the UNODC.

Besides, Director of the Cyber Security Coordination Center, Colonel Zhanybek Zhorobaev spoke about the creation of the Cyber Park, as part of the implementation of state policy in the sphere of cybersecurity.

At the end of the meeting, the sides agreed on the need for joint efforts to strengthen the capacity and capability of Kyrgyzstan’s State Committee for National Security within the framework of UNODC programs.
