Bishkek, June 5, 2020. /Kabar/. In Kyrgyzstan, Internet usage increased by 33% amid COVID-19 pandemic, Chairman of the State Committee for Information Technologies and Communications of the country Dastan Dogoyev said during a news briefing.
According to him, a digital dialogue with heads of the country's oblasts attended by President Sooronbay Jeenbekov was held Thursday. The main topic of discussion was the development of regions and digitalization in this situation.
"The most important thing is that the current situation with COVID-19 has made a number of changes in our lives, communication and movement. But in spite of these risks, I would like to note that all the work done within the "Digital Kyrgyzstan" concept has made it possible to pass this difficult situation with dignity.
The main component of "Digital Kyrgyzstan" is digital infrastructure. I would like to note that the digital infrastructure, namely in the field of digital education, has shown its worth. Meanwhile, this infrastructure has also been used productively and successfully in other areas," Dogoyev said.
The head of the Information Technologies Committee noted the number of Internet users has increased during the pandemic. Internet usage increased by 33% across the country.
For example, in Bishkek this figure increased by 6%, in Naryn Oblast - 64%, in the city of Osh and Osh Oblast- 33%.
At the same time, by decision of the Republican Headquarters and the Kyrgyz Government, private mobile operators provided the education sector with quality Internet free of charge. Seven educational resources were provided with free Internet. The number of Internet users in education increased by 23%.
