Bishkek, Feb. 15, 2022 . / Kabar / . Peace negotiations with Centerra Gold on the Kumtor gold deposit are now being completed. Presumably, the issue will be resolved by March 15, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Zhaparov said during a press conference on Tuesday.

He added that all the information on Kumtor will be provided after the completion of negotiations.

"They (Centerra) have been preparing for the last 4-5 years that sooner or later the mine will be taken away and kept the money abroad. But because of the rise in gold prices they did not want to leave," Zhaparov said.

The chairman of the Kyrgyz Cabinet noted that since the introduction of external management at Kumtor, the revenues of the mine by the end of 2021 amounted to $326-329 million.

"In turn, the monthly capital - turnover of the company is $35-50 million, while the budget receives a net income of $220 million. In addition, previously the Canadian side was not paying tax at the rate of 4% for mineral resources. As of today, 18% of the gross domestic product is provided at the expense of funds received from Kumtor. Thus, the income from the mine increased by KGS 4.5 billion,” Zhaparov concluded.
