Bishkek, Nov. 8, 2017. /Kabar/. Kyrgyzstani Asel Sartbaeva received the IChemE Global Awards 2017 on biotechnology for inventing an innovative method for storing vaccines without cooling.
The uniqueness of the invention is that now many vaccines quickly become unsuitable, ineffective or toxic, if they are not stored in the refrigerator.
The team of Asel Sartbaeva came up with a way to infect vaccines on silica, which stops their spoilage, significantly reduces health care costs and saves millions of lives.
Thus, no special refrigerator with a certain temperature is required to store or transport vaccines.
"I am honored to receive this award. I am very touched and happy. My group worked hard to develop this process," Sartbaeva thanked.
The ceremony was held in Birmingham, where 140 scientists from 21 countries took part.
Asel Sartbaeva is one of the first world-recognized women scientists from Central Asia. She is also a member of the Royal Science Society of Great Britain. Members of this society were Dorothy Hodgkin, Michael Faraday, Isaac Newton, Stephen Hawking and many other scientists.
