Bishkek, Nov. 9, 2023. / Kabar/. Kyrgyzstani Aknazar Kenzhebaev became the world champion in chessboxing. He competes in the weight category up to 90 kilograms.
Aknazar Kenzhebaev is 36 years old. He is the dean of the coaching faculty of Kyrgyz State Academy of Physical Culture and Sports named after Beishen Turusbekov and a judge of the international category AIBA (International Boxing Association). He has been in boxing for more than 20 years and is a candidate master of sports.
“From the age of 6 to 12, I studied chess and participated in international tournaments. I've been in boxing all my life. I started training with a mentor at the age of 12,” the champion said.
He began preparing for the World Championships two months in advance. He himself built a training plan and followed sports discipline: on weekdays he ran 4 kilometers, on weekends - 10, trained in boxing with his students, and in chess - with artificial intelligence.
“It was hard to return to professional sports after a long break and train twice a day,” Kenzhebaev said.
“In the overall standings, Kyrgyzstan took eighth place among 17 countries. We consider this a good achievement for us, considering that the domestic Chessboxing Federation was created only in March of this year,” Sultanov noted.
The World Chessboxing Championship took place for the fifth time this year. Kyrgyzstan participated in it for the first time. In total, seven athletes participated in the weight category up to 90 kilograms together with Aknazar Kenzhebaev.
The next world chessboxing championship will be held in France after the Summer Olympics. The Federation intends to prepare more athletes for it and adequately represent the country.
Chessboxing is a hybrid sport, a combination of chess and boxing in alternating rounds.
