Bishkek, Aug. 6, 2024 . / Kabar / .Kyrgyzstani female wrestler Meerim Zhumanazarova competed Aug. 5 in a freestyle wrestling tournament in the 68kg weight class, where 16 athletes were entered.
She started in the 1/8 finals, where she defeated world No. 2 from Mongolia, and then in the quarterfinals the Kyrgyzstani took victory over Nonoka Ozaki of Japan, the top favorite in the weight class.
In the semifinals, Zhumanazarova met 35-year-old 13-time African champion Blessing Oborududu of Nigeria. Zhumanazarova won the bout and advanced to the finals.
On Aug. 6, the Kyrgyz will compete for the Olympic gold medal against Amit Elor of the United States.
