Kyrgyzstanis start using less cash

Official representative of the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic Aida Karabayeva said at a press conference at the Kabar agency that the number of bank card users continues to grow.

“Commercial banks and other market participants have begun to take measures to create an infrastructure for the convenience of customers in order to use mobile applications and non-cash means of payment,” she said.

Karabayeva said that during the pandemic, non-cash payments have shown their convenience and attractiveness.

“Today, the Elcart national card also offers a wide range of services, such as mobile banking, QR codes. Work in this direction will continue. We are talking only about "Elkart" in addition to commercial banks.

More than 723 thousand users use Elcart mobile banking, as of July 1, about 30 million payments were made through it, 13 thousand payments worth 21 million soms were made through Elcart Trade. Citizens also widely use contactless cards,” the representative of the National Bank said.

She noted that commercial banks have already issued more than 12,000 QR codes for shopping facilities. Last year, this figure was about 3,000 QR codes.
