Bishkek, Aug. 12, 2021 . / Kabar / . Batken Oblast will receive a special status by the end of 2021, Deputy Director of the State Agency for Regional Development under the Kyrgyz Ministry of Agriculture Ermek Bakhavidinov said during a press conference at Kabar News Agency on Thursday.
He added the special status will give and expand the powers of the region's administration, as well as give presidential envoy in the oblast the status of deputy chairman of the Cabinet.
"In addition, special investment and tax regimes will be introduced in the oblast. Also, a Council for the improvement of the socio-economic situation of the oblast will be formed. This body will approve the program of development of the region. Within the framework of this draft law, KGS 500 million will be annually allocated to Batken Oblast from the country's budget. Now a working group has been formed to develop a program for Batken Oblast, and the working group will submit a development program for the oblast to the Cabinet of Ministers in the coming days," he said.
Bakhavidinov noted that 140 burned houses on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border are being restored by the state.
"76 entrepreneurs who suffered during the conflict were provided assistance in the amount of KGS 15 million. The authorities started providing them soft loans. In addition, social facilities of the oblast are being restored, including 5 schools, 2 kindergartens and one health care facility. 36 houses for families who lost their relatives during the conflict are under construction in Batken, they will be commissioned soon,” the deputy head of the Regional Development Agency concluded.
