Bishkek, May 19, 2021 . / Kabar / . Members of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of the Kyrgyz Republic supported the decision of the Bishkek Territorial Election Commission’s (BTEC) decision to invalidate the results of the Bishkek City Council elections.
During the meeting, CEC Chairwoman Nurzhan Shaildabekova noted the country should move towards stability and development, and the electoral process in the country should be open and clean
"Fair elections are the basis for the legitimization of government and power. Elections must be free of bribery and administrative resources. The complaint of the Emgek party implies that we have to pretend that there were no violations," she said.
Earlier, the Emgek political party filed a complaint to the CEC against the decision of the BTEC to invalidate the results of the Bishkek City Council elections.
As a result of the meeting, the CEC rejected the complaint.
In April 11, local council elections and the referendum on the adoption of the draft of the new Constitution were held in Kyrgyzstan.
According to preliminary data, six parties passed to the Bishkek City Council:
- Bizdin El - 7.73 %;
- Ata-Jurt Kyrgyzstan - 9.63%;
- NDPK - 10.70%;
- Emgek - 13.87%;
- Yntymak - 13.87%;
- Ak-Bata - 12.15%.
However, on May 12, during the session, members of Bishkek Territorial Elections Commission declared the results of elections to the Bishkek City Council invalid.
Three political organizations (Emgek, Ak-Bata, and NDPK) were withdrawn, and the ballots with votes for these parties were declared invalid.
