Bishkek, Nov.25, 2019. /Kabar/. Kyrgyzstan’s Deputy Prime Minister Altynai Omurbekova met with Regional Director of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for South-Eastern Europe, Eastern Europe and Central Asia Argentina Szabados.
During the meeting the sides discussed issues in the field of international migration policy, labor migration and combating trafficking in human beings, the Government’s press service said Monday.
Omurbekova noted the International Organization for Migration is a leading international partner in assisting the Government in the development of the state management of migration processes in the country.
“Currently, the most important issues for our country are labor migration of citizens abroad, ensuring their social and legal protection in the host countries, as well as internal migration and immigration of foreign citizens, including ethnic Kyrgyz and refugees. I would like to emphasize that the republic is firmly committed to its international obligations and therefore strives to provide every citizen moving within the country and abroad with decent living conditions and protection of their rights and interests," she stressed.
According to her data, about 750 thousand Kyrgyz citizens currently work abroad.
“Together with our partners, we are working to improve information for migrant workers on their rights and obligations during their stay abroad, to create a comprehensive system of return and reintegration of migrants in the home country, to provide support and assistance to children of migrants, to provide legal and legal assistance to our migrant workers abroad, as well as the organization of pre-departure training," Omurbekova said.
During the meeting, the deputy prime minister also noted the Government is developing the Concept of Migration Policy of the Kyrgyz Republic until 2030. The purpose of this Concept is to stabilize migration processes in the country.
IOM Regional Director Argentina Szabados noted the readiness of the organization to support the effective implementation of migration policy in the country, and proposed to hold training workshops on the regulation of migration processes.
As a result of the meeting, the sides outlined the main areas for strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation, including addressing the issues of regulation and development of all forms of migration, as well as strengthening cooperation in the field of international migration and human trafficking, and agreed to maintain close working contact.
The International Organization for Migration has been operating in Kyrgyzstan since 1997. Since the opening of the IOM office in the country, the organization has implemented more than 80 grant projects for a total amount of $ 33 million.
