Swiss business. The group of Swiss businessmen visited the Kyrgyz Republic on September 5-9.

The representatives of business circles in Switzerland, active in various spheres of economy, learned more about Kyrgyzstan’s investment potential and prospects for cooperation.

Executive Director of the International Business ( IBC) Council Askar Sydykov told the guests about the activities of IBC, explaining that the business association can assist in establishing contacts with potential partners.

“We appreciate the fact that Switzerland continues to provide Kyrgyzstan technical assistance, the Head of the IBC said. — Visits by business delegations mean that the trade relations between the two countries are developing, and that there will be more joint projects“.

The relations between the two countries reached a new stage of development after the recent visit of Minister of Economic Affairs, Education and Research of Switzerland Johann Schneider-Ammann to Bishkek, Askar Sydykov said.

Gas pipeline from Turkmenistan. Construction of the Turkmenistan -Tajikistan- Kyrgyzstan - China transit gas pipeline will be realized after all.

Deputy Chairman of the State Committee of Industry, Energy and Subsoil Use Alymbek Orozbekov told that the project was initially to be implemented in 2013-2016, but for objective reasons the implementation dates had to be changed.

“In particular, the reason for postponing of dates was the volatility in the gas market in Turkmenistan. Generally, the agreement remained the same. The project is regional, its length is about 1 thousand km, in Kyrgyzstan the gas pipeline will stretch for 218 km. In Kyrgyzstan the project will be entirely realized at the expense of private investments, the sum ranges from от $1 billion to $1.2 billion. Within the project, it is planned that during the construction approximately 1 thousand work positions will be created, 200 work places after putting the operation. We have agreed with the company that 80% of workers will be from among the local residents. For this purpose, today there was a ceremony of presenting certificates for acquiring education in the field of oil and gas in China. We don’t have such specialists here”, he explained.

Petrol. The Committee on Agrarian Policy, Water Resources, Ecology and Regional Development of the Parliament of the Kyrgyz Republic approved the draft law "On Amendments to Some Legislative Acts of the Kyrgyz Republic "On Air Protection", "On Environmental Expertise" in the third reading.

In particular under the amendments the import of fuels and lubricants that do not meet the requirements of the technical regulations of the Customs Union is prohibited on the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic. Since August 12, 2019 the release into circulation and circulation of motor gasoline and diesel fuel lower than the ecological class K4 is prohibited in the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Disappearing cooperatives. Cooperatives in Kyrgyzstan do not work or roll back, deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh Akylbek Japarov said at the II International Forum on the development of cooperatives in Central Asia

He said that the products produced by cooperatives are negligible.

"According to the National Statistical Committee of the Kyrgyz Republic the number of active cooperatives in 2006 amounted to 1 thousand. 240, but in 2016 there were only 340 cooperatives. In Kyrgyzstan, only 4 thousand 840 people refer themselves to farmers. Only 3% of the sown land in the country belongs to the lands of cooperatives", Japarov said.

About GDP. The volume of the gross domestic product (GDP) of Kyrgyzstan exceeded 310.2 billion soms during the period from January to August, 2018.

Preliminary calculations of the National Statistics Committee showed that this rate had declined by 0.3% compared to the same period of the last year, and shows that the economic growth had slowed down.

Without Kumtor mining company, the GDP for the period of eight months made about 283 billion soms and increased by 2.1%.

Decrease in industrial production. A decline in industrial production is observed in Kyrgyzstan from January to August 2018.

According to data of the National Statistics Committee of the Kyrgyz Republic, the volume of iindustrial products since the beginning of the year, according to preliminary estimates made about 146 billion soms in the structure of the country's gross domestic product.

The achieved indicator tells about its decrease by 9.3%, which is caused by the reduction in the extraction of metal ores by 62.4%, as well as the production of precious metals by 18%.

More oil products. The volume of oil products production has increased in Kyrgyzstan since the beginning of 2018.

According to data of the National Statistics Committee, the growth rate made 34.9%. In total, four countries are engaged in producing refined oil products today throughout the country: the Kyrgyz Petroleum Company CJSC, oil-processing plants in Jalal-Abad, Kemin, and Kara-Balta.

Moreover, the Statistics Committee indicated that in the industrial sector the growth rate had been reached in the textile sector (1.5 times), the production of clothes ( 24.9), rubber and plastic items, as well as other non-metal mineral products (by 16.8%).

External trade. The external trade turnover of Kyrgyzstan for the period from January to July of 2018 made $3.8 billion.

According to preliminary estimations of the National Statistics Committee, the sum that has been reached demonstrates its growth by 14%. Along with that, as it is specified, export operations reduced by 1.6%, while imports, on the contrary, increased by 20%.

“The decline in exports is due to reduction in supply of gold by 22.2%, as well as ore and precious metals concentrates – by 7.5%. So, as compared to the same period of the last year, there was a decline in trafficked gold from 40.1 down to 31.7%, ore and precious metals concentrates – from 8.8 down to 8.2%”, the specialists explained.

Trade partners of the Kyrgyz Republic. Since the beginning of 2018, Kyrgyzstan's foreign trade turnover has reached $ 3.8 billion, and almost one-third of this figure falls to mutual trade with the Eurasian Economic Union member countries.

According to data of the National Statistics Committee of the Kyrgyz Republic, the volume of mutual trade between the republic and the EEU member states made $ 1.3 billion and increased by 0.3% as compared to January-July 2017.

At the same time, imports of goods to these countries decreased by 2.8%, while exports increased by 10.4%. Thus, the largest share of Kyrgyzstan's mutual trade with the EEU member states fell to Russia (66.2%) and Kazakhstan (32.1%).

The volume of trade with European countries for the reporting period made $ 541.8 million, where the share of exports amounted to $ 348.5 million, and imports 193.3 million.

The volume of mutual trade of Kyrgyzstan with China amounted to $ 1 billion 226.2 million.

A similar picture is typical for trade relations between Kyrgyzstan and Turkey, where the share of exports is $ 41.3 million, and imports $ 168.8 million.

Investment statistics. For six months of this year, the volume of capital investments of foreign investors in various sectors of Kyrgyzstan made $ 247 million.

According to data of the National Statistical Committee of the Kyrgyz Republic, this amount indicates a decrease in the volume of foreign direct investment by 33.2% compared to the same period last year. Then their volume reached $ 369.5 million.

In percentage, most of the funds received were directed to mineral extraction enterprises (27.8%) and geological exploration (19.6%).

Enterprises for processing raw materials received 16.1% of the total amount received. 11.7% of funds were directed for financial intermediation, 9% were directed for information technology development and 9.8% for the other 15.8%.

Foreign enterprises in Kyrgyzstan. According to the latest data of the National Statistics Committee, there are 3 thousand 107 foreign enterprises in Kyrgyzstan, and 42% of the total number (1 thousand 328) are joint companies.

The bulk of the foreign companies that lead their business in Kyrgyzstan are located in Bishkek – 2 thousand 579, or 80% of the total number.

Over 62.5 thousand of people or 31.3% of those working in the real sector of economy are employed in foreign-invested enterprises. Over 75% of them are men.

Following the results of the past year, the volume of industrial products (work, services) of foreign-invested enterprises amount to 124.4 billion soms. Generally, they produce plastic containers, furniture, window frames, pasta products, tea, and drinks.

Fast-moving sectors of the Kyrgyz Republic. At the first Russian-Kyrgyz business forum in Bishkek, Deputy Minister of Economy of the Kyrgyz Republic Eldar Abakirov told about five quickly paid and profitable sectors of the country. He said that the Government of Kyrgyzstan is taking all measures to create favorable conditions for conducting business activities and improving the investment climate.

"We consider this forum as an important event in the further strengthening and development of trade and economic ties between our countries. In this connection, we pin hopes on this business forum with representatives of business circles in Russia that close industrial, commercial and other mutually beneficial contacts will be established, "Abakirov said.

He said that today there are five sectors in an embryonic state in Kyrgyzstan with a promising future, including sewing industry, processing of agricultural products, tourism, information technologies and medicine.
