Kyrgyzstan’s GDP down by 5.9% since beginning year

Bishkek, Sept. 11, 2020. /Kabar/. According to preliminary estimates, Kyrgyzstan’s gross domestic product (GDP) in January-August 2020 amounted to KGS 335.3 billion, having decreased in comparison with January-August last year by 5.9%.

According to the press service of the National Statistics Committee, excluding the enterprises developing the Kumtor field, the GDP amounted to KGS 292.6 billion and decreased by 7.6% compared to the same period last year.

The decline in GDP growth rates is mainly due to a reduction in construction and service sectors. At the same time, reduction of growth rates of commodity production branches, as compared to January-August of the previous year, made up 99,2% (in January-August of 2019 - 110,8%), branches rendering services - 90,2% (in January-August of 2019 - 102,5%).

In January-August of the current year, the sectors rendering services (46,5%) accounted for the biggest share in the GDP structure, which in comparison with January-August of the previous year decreased by 0,9 percentage points, while the share of sectors producing goods, on the contrary, increased by 4,9 percentage points and made up 42,7%.

Meanwhile, the share of industry made up 23,0 %, which is 4,1 percentage points more than in the same period of the previous year, the share of agriculture, respectively, 12,9% and 1,2 percentage points, while the share of construction, on the contrary, declined by 0,4 percentage points, making up 6,8 %.
