Bishkek, Feb. 18, 2021. / Kabar /. The Sports Palace named after Kaba uulu Kojomkul hosted on Wednesday an opening ceremony of Kyrgyzstan’s Greco-Roman Wrestling Championship.
The event was attended by Minister of Culture, Information, Sports and Youth Policy of Kyrgyzstan Kairat Imanaliyev, Acting Director of the State Agency for Youth, Physical Culture and Sports Kanat Shabdanbayev, Deputy President of the Kyrgyz Wrestling Federation Melis Turganbayev, Director of Olympic Sports Directorate Zhomart Shamkanov, invited guests, coaches and athletes.
Welcoming all the participants and guests, Kairat Imanaliyev noted that for many years, the leading athletes in Greco-Roman wrestling represent Kyrgyzstan on the world stage and win prizes.
"As part of the implementation of the decree of Kyrgyz President "On the spiritual and moral development and physical education of the individual" we plan to hold sports events this year. I also hope that our athletes will win more licenses and show good results at the Olympic Games in Tokyo," the minister said.
After the speech, he declared the Championship of the Kyrgyz Republic open.
130 wrestlers from all regions of the republic take part in the sporting event.
The first day of the competition featured wrestlers in five weight categories (55 kg, 63 kg, 72 kg, 82 kg, 97 kg).
The organizers of the national championship are the Directorate of Olympic Sports and the Wrestling Federation of the Kyrgyz Republic.
