Bishkek, June 3, 2022. / Kabar /. Minister of Health of Kyrgyzstan Alymkadyr Beishenaliev was detained on suspicion of corruption, the press service of the country’s Prosecutor General's Office reported.
The press service said that the leadership of the Ministry of Health, together with some officials, grossly violated the requirements of the decree of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic "On urgent measures to develop the healthcare system" and organized a money laundering scheme.
From December 2020 to September 2021, Kyrgyzstan received 451,560 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 in the form of free humanitarian aid from international organizations, as well as Russia, China, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan. In addition, the president of the Kyrgyz Republic reached an agreement with the heads of Russia and China on the provision of 6 million doses of vaccines in the form of humanitarian aid. But despite this, on behalf of Minister of Health Alymkadyr Beishenaliev, 2 million doses of vaccines worth 1 billion 581 million 474 thousand 315 soms were purchased in April, June, July and September 2021, from private foreign companies. These funds were transferred offshore, the report said.
Thus, having 3 million 147 thousand 640 doses of vaccines available, officials purchased another 2 million 460 thousand doses for personal enrichment. At the same time, 243 thousand 223 doses of vaccines have expired, and the remaining excess doses also expire.
As a result, the state suffered damage in the amount of 1 billion 581 million 474 thousand 315 soms.
In addition, 5 cases of corruption are being investigated against the minister of health and other officials.
