Bishkek, Dec. 21, 2020 /Kabar/. The State Registration Service of Kyrgyzstan is working to introduce electronic general civil passports of Kyrgyz citizens using biometric data (ePassport) in accordance with the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Deputy Chairman of the republic’s Registration Service Tilek Batyrkanov told during a press conference at Kabar News Agency.
At present, citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic are issued travel passports of the current model since 2006, which is significantly outdated.
"Taking into account modern threats and increasing cases of travel document forgery, in order to ensure the safety of Kyrgyz citizens when traveling abroad with a modern and protected travel document, the registration service is working on the introduction of a new electronic general civil passport," he said.
Batyrkanov also pointed out that the main advantage of new passports is the use of more than 30 modern security elements, the presence of an electronic chip on the passport cover, modern materials and laser technology for applying personal information.
The deputy chairman added that according to the requirements and standards of ICAO, the new passport has a cryptographic data protection (PKI), which is the most important attribute of modern travel documents.
