Bishkek, Nov. 10, 2020. /Kabar/. "Kyrgyzstan's participation in the SCO is one of the priorities of the country’s foreign policy," Acting President of Kyrgyzstan, Prime Minister Sadyr Zhaparov noted on Tuesday at a meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, which was held under the chairmanship of the Russian Federation through videoconference.
According to the Kyrgyz president’s press service, in his speech Sadyr Zhaparov noted the great work done by the Russian side during the chairmanship of SCO despite the coronavirus pandemic.
He briefly talked about the events that took place in Kyrgyzstan in October this year related to public dissatisfaction with the results of the parliamentary elections.
The acting Kyrgyz president added that the transfer of power in the country took place peacefully, in strict compliance with the current legislation and the situation in Kyrgyzstan is now stable. Sadyr Zhaparov thanked the SCO member states for their support during those difficult days for the country and the people.
Besides, he noted the pandemic has shown the effectiveness of the SCO - the Organization's member states have demonstrated solidarity and mutual support in combating the global threat.
At the same time, Sadyr Zhaparov expressed gratitude to the member states for their assistance during the outbreak of the pandemic.
“The Kyrgyz Republic will always be a reliable partner of the Russian Federation in matters of Eurasian integration. We will consistently continue to develop our interstate, economic and cultural ties. There are a number of topical issues between our countries on cooperation. I would like to ask you to discuss them in a telephone conversation.
I would like to note the significant contribution of the People's Republic of China to the fight against coronavirus by providing humanitarian, technical and medical assistance to many countries of the world. We are grateful to China for its substantial assistance in combating the infection, both through bilateral cooperation and multilateral collaboration. We are also grateful to the leadership of the SCO member and observer states - Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, India and Iran - for their humanitarian and medical assistance. We highly appreciate the support provided to us," he noted.
The acting president said overcoming the socio-economic consequences of the pandemic and effective use of all SCO potential are considered to be important task, therefore it is necessary to focus on strengthening cooperation in trade and economic sphere, including the development of digital economy, joint implementation of major economic projects.
"The pandemic has shown the importance of developing transport and logistics infrastructure on a regional scale.
Construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway in the future will connect our region with the states of the Middle East and Europe and promote the growth of mutual trade.
We also consider it important to develop concrete measures for practical implementation of the Agreement between the governments of the SCO member states on creating favourable conditions for international road transport.
In order to ensure financing of economic projects, there is need to intensify work on the establishment of the SCO Development Bank and the SCO Development Fund.
I would like to emphasize that a solid legal and regulatory framework for cooperation in all key areas of interaction has been established within the SCO, but nevertheless, there are still few concrete results, especially in the trade and economic sphere.
This circumstance predetermines the expediency of creating financial ground.
In this regard, it is necessary to intensify work through the Finance Ministries so that a concrete decision can be taken by the 20th anniversary of SCO," Sadyr Zhaparov said.
In conclusion, Acting President of Kyrgyzstan Zhaparov expressed gratitude to the Russian side for the successful organization of today’s meeting, adding that the Tajik side as the next chairmanship of the SCO can count on the full cooperation of the Kyrgyz side.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization is a permanent international organization, which was formed on June 15, 2001 in Shanghai (China).
The main areas of cooperation are the development of economic cooperation, energy partnership, scientific and cultural interaction, as well as the fight against terrorism, separatism, extremism and drug trafficking.
Today, the members of the organization are India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran, Mongolia are observer states.
