Bishkek, Sept. 1, 2020. /Kabar/. Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov held Tuesday a narrow meeting of the country’s Security Council, his press service reported.
The meeting with participation of heads of state bodies, governors, mayors of the Bishkek and Osh cities considered the issue of measures on preparation and holding of parliamentary elections on Oct. 4, 2020.
In his speech, President Jeenbekov noted that there is much talk about changing polling stations in towns and villages by parties and candidates for deputies of parliament in order to increase electorate.
He emphasized that all such communications should be promptly checked by the authorized bodies in order to take appropriate decisions within the legislative framework.
"We are ready to hold transparent elections. What do we need now? First of all, we need to react to such statements and messages promptly. In case of confirmation, violators should be held accountable. If not, then we should not allow provocateurs to speculate with different information. Secondly, district commissions should "run like clockwork" to ensure full transparency of the election process," the president said.
The Kyrgyz leader stressed the special need to implement these two directions, as it is a pledge of undeniable summing up of the election results and will not give individuals an opportunity to try to destabilize the situation in the post-election period.
At the same time, he added that the preparatory work for the election process was carried out at the proper level. He noted the readiness of the legislative base, precinct election commissions to conduct parliamentary elections openly and democratically.
At the meeting of the Security Council, information about the ongoing preparatory work for the parliamentary elections amid coronavirus pandemic was presented by Chairwoman of the Central Commission for Elections and Referendum of the Kyrgyz Republic Nurzhan Shaildabekova and Prime Minister Kubatbek Boronov.
Interior Minister Kashkar Dzhunushaliyev reported about measures to ensure public security in the pre- and post-election periods.
As a result of the Security Council’s meeting, a number of decisions has been taken.
