Bishkek, Feb. 24, 2022. / Kabar /. The national hockey team of Kyrgyzstan is preparing for the 2022 IIHF World Championship to be held in Bishkek on March 3-9.
Thus, as part of preparation for the tournament, players of the team are having training camps.
Head coach of the team Mikhail Chekanov said that the team is in working condition.
"The first game will show the readiness of the team. At this stage, the final roster is unknown. We are going to announce the roster on Feb. 28. As of today the mood is combative - working," he said.
In his turn, Elzar Bolotbekov, Vice-President of the Hockey Federation of Kyrgyzstan pointed out that the Bishkek ice arena is being prepared for the championship.
"It is assumed that by the beginning of the championship, the arena will be 100% ready," he said.
The championship will be held on March 3-9. The gala event will be attended by President of the International Ice Hockey Federation Luc Tardif, famous Soviet ice hockey goaltender Vladislav Tretiak, President of the German Ice Hockey Association Franz Reindl and IIHF Vice-President for Asia and Oceania Aivaz Omorkanov.
Currently five national teams have confirmed their participation, all of them from Asia, namely Kyrgyzstan team (came from Division III qualifying tournament), Kuwait team (came from Division III qualifying tournament), Iran team (participates for the first time), Singapore team (participates for the first time), Malaysia team (participates for the first time).
The championship was to be held in 2020, but was canceled due to COVID-19 pandemic.
The World Championship Division IV is a sports competition under the auspices of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF).
