Bishkek, Oct.21, 2019. /Kabar/. The Commission of the World Craft Council (WCC) has arrived in Kyrgyzstan to assess the status of “City of Masters” for two oblasts of the republic.
Issyk-Kul Oblast will be presented for the nomination “City of yurts”, and Naryn Oblast for “City of felt products”, the press service of the Culture Ministry reported.
On Oct. 21-26, 2019 representatives of the Culture Ministry, the Crafts Council of Kyrgyzstan, the Bishkek Business Club and the NICE-TAK project, as well as CACSARC-kg and the Kyial State Enterprise will visit cooperatives, crafts workshops, museums and training institutions in Issyk-Kul and Naryn Oblasts.
International territorial branding of Issyk-Kul and Naryn Oblasts contributes to the preservation and development of folk arts and crafts, and will have a significant impact on the social and economic development of the region and the country.
The overall objective of the project is to promote small and medium-sized businesses in Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan with a special focus on the development of the craft sector. This objective will be achieved through capacity building and support to Tajik and Kyrgyz business intermediaries.
The application for the status of "City of Masters" has been drafted and sent by the Bishkek Business Club, the Crafts Council of Kyrgyzstan and CACSARC-kg with the support of the NICE-TAK project, funded by the European Union in co-financing with the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany.
The World Crafts Council AISBL (WCC-AISBL) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that was founded in 1964 to promote fellowship, foster economic development through income generating craft related activities, organize exchange programs, workshops, conferences, seminars, and exhibitions—and in general, to offer encouragement, help, and advice to the craftspersons of the world.
