Bishkek, June 16, 2021 . / Kabar / . During a press conference at Kabar News Agency, Director of Kyrgyzstan’s State Agency for Water Resources Almaz Sokeyev pointed out the main reasons for the lack of irrigation water in Chui Oblast and Bishkek.

He said a small water inflow is observed in settling tanks, hydraulic sites, reservoirs, ten-day regulation basins and river mouths.

"To date, the inflow of water has decreased by 3 times", the Water Resources director added.

Almaz Sokeyev also voiced a number of reasons related to the lack of water.

Thus, the main reasons are:

- Reduction in total precipitation accumulation for the period from Oct. 1, 2020 to March 1, 2021.

- Lack of reservoirs.

- Cold.

- An outdated irrigation system.

- Loss of water by filtration in river channels, inter-farm and on-farm canals that supply water to farmers.

- Fragmentation of farms and peasant farms leads to the lack of crop rotation (alternation) of crops. In this regard, the need for water arises at the same time.
