Kyrgyzstan is actively expanding and modernizing its civil aviation infrastructure. The republic has never seen such a rapid development of its airport network. Airports in all regional centers have been renovated and repaired, and in some regions there are already several of them. The country is completing the creation of an extensive network of air routes that will create convenient transport links, when it will be possible to get to the capital and other cities from almost any point in the republic in a couple of hours. At any time of year and in almost any weather, which is especially important for our mountainous republic with numerous passes and difficult roads.
There are already three international airports in the country - Manas in Bishkek, Osh in the southern region and Issyk-Kul on the coast of the pearl of Kyrgyzstan. Now Karakol airport is also being launched, and it also meets high standards of passenger service. But that’s not all; construction of a new international airport in Jalal-Abad is set to begin in the near future.
As for local airlines, regular air traffic is being established with all regions of Kyrgyzstan. Congratulating domestic aviators on their professional holiday on October 7, President Sadyr Zhaparov made a special emphasis on this. "As part of the National Development Program of Kyrgyzstan, to date, the regional airports in Karakol, Kazarman, Kerben, Talas, Razzakov and Naryn have been reconstructed at the expense of the Manas International Airport. Flights to these airports are planned to resume in the near future. The aircraft fleet is also being replenished with new aircraft," henoted.
Kyrgyzstan's aviation is on the rise again. For the first time in the years of independence, the domestic company Asman is leasing several Bombardier aircraft directly from the factory. These are short-range turboprop airliners designed to carry 80 passengers over a distance of up to 2 thousand kilometers. At the same time, they are specially adapted for flights in mountainous terrain.
Recently, during a visit to Europe, the Kyrgyz president held talks with the management of the aircraft manufacturing giant Airbus, where he outlined his intention to strengthen cooperation and discussed the possibility of Kyrgyzstan airlines acquiring modern airliners to operate international flights.
During the meeting, Sadyr Zhaparov focused on the work being carried out in Kyrgyzstan to update the aircraft fleet and introduce modern technologies. He spoke about plans to lease two Airbus aircraft (A320 or A321 models) in the first phase of cooperation, which will be used to operate flights to Europe, including Bishkek-Paris, Bishkek-Berlin and Bishkek-London. In 2025, a decision is expected to be made to remove domestic carriers from the EU blacklist.
But things are not standing still, even in the context of the fact that there are objective, temporary difficulties. Firstly, they are being resolved, and secondly, cooperation is developing and advancing in other areas. President Sadyr Zhaparov also recently spoke about this. "In recent years, air traffic has been established with Kuwait, South Korea, Azerbaijan and Saudi Arabia, which has led to an annual increase in passenger traffic. These achievements indicate that our country is actively strengthening international ties and cooperation. I am proud to note that Manas International Airport has achieved significant success. If in 2019 the airport's net profit was 2 billion 108 million soms, then in 2023 it increased to 6 billion soms," the head of state emphasized.
An absolute factor of development is a significant increase in the flow of tourists through the air gates of Kyrgyzstan. This naturally has a positive impact on the economy: different guests come to us - some want to get acquainted with cultural traditions and see unique nature, others are ready to invest in the development of infrastructure and the tourism industry. Thus, the expansion of the network of airports that meet high service standards is a very important vector of strategic development.
Domestic passenger air transportation between regions plays an equally important role. Doctor of Economics Tolonbek Abdyrov says that a big advantage of air bridges is that they can be used to operate flights all year round, with minimal time costs. "What we are now seeing is aimed at a very good result. Time is an invaluable resource. And it often happens that a person urgently needs to get from one end of the country to another. Domestic airlines are very convenient in this regard.
Currently, all regions of our country are connected by domestic flights. For example, I can easily fly from Naryn and get to Osh, of course, via Bishkek for now, but it is still more convenient than driving on a winter road for a day or more with the risk of getting stuck on a snowy mountain pass,” Tolonbek Abdyrov said.
The rate of altitude gain demonstrated by aviation clearly demonstrates the growing capabilities of our economy, experts said. Kyrgyzstan is developing very important infrastructure elements that will act as new growth drivers and open up new prospects and opportunities for the country.
