Bishkek, June 11, 2020. /Kabar/. In Kyrgyzstan, last year's poverty rate, calculated on the basis of consumer spending, made 20.1%, which is 2.3 percentage points less compared to the previous year.
According to the press service of the National Statistics Committee, the poverty rate in urban settlements has decreased by 5.4 percentage points, while in rural areas - by 0.5 points.
1 million 313 thousand people were living below the poverty line, 73.8% of which were residents of rural settlements.
A decline in the poverty rate in 2019 compared to the previous year was recorded in Talas Oblast - by 8.8 percentage points, in Dzhalal-Abad Oblast - by 5.3, in Naryn Oblast by 2.5, in Batken Oblast by 1.2 and in Osh Oblast by 0.7, as well as in the cities of Bishkek and Osh - by 3.5 and 14.8, respectively.
At the same time, poverty rose by 3.5 percentage points in Chui Oblast and by 2.9 percentage points in Issyk-Kul Oblast.
There were 660,800 children aged 0-17 living in poverty, or 28.3 % in percentage terms.
