Bishkek, Sept. 18, 2022 / Kabar /. Law enforcement agencies of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan at 13:00 on September 18 agreed on joint patrolling, Deputy Head of the Public Security Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Nurlan Ismailov told at a press conference in Bishkek.
He said that a joint patrol began to function on the Khujant-Kanibadam highway in the Leilek region, which includes 60 police officers from the two countries.
The clashes on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border started on Sept. 14.
The Tajik side attacked border guarding and civilian infrastructure objects of Kyrgyzstan along the perimeter of the state border in Batken Oblast. Tajikistan used heavy armored vehicles, multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) and aircraft in an attempt to seize the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic.
According to the State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Tajik military destroyed the infrastructure of outposts, as well as schools, kindergartens, retail outlets, first-aid posts, and houses. Shouting nationalist slogans, they showed blasphemy and subjected the bodies of the border guards of the Kyrgyz Republic who died at the post to mockery.
As a result, 36 people died, 134 are reported to be injured.
An emergency regime has been introduced in Batken Oblast.
