35% of total number of students in Kyrgyzstan are foreign students

Bishkek, Feb. 10, 2022. / Kabar /. Less students from India and more from Pakistan began to study in Kyrgyzstan.

Ainura Koshmatova, chief specialist of the social statistics department of the National Statistics Committee, said during a press conference in Bishkek that about 83,000 foreign students, or more than 35% of the total number of students, studied at the universities of Kyrgyzstan during the last academic year.

“The number of students from the CIS countries in Kyrgyzstan over the past 5 years has increased from 8 to 59 thousand people, that is, 8 times. The largest share falls on Uzbekistan, while the number of students from Kazakhstan has decreased from 43% to 3%,” the specialist said.

Koshmatova added that the number of students from non-CIS countries over the past 5 years has increased from 9 to 24 thousand people, or 2.7 times.

At the same time, the proportion of students from India decreased from 77% to 61%, while the proportion of students from Pakistan increased from 6% to 32%.
