Bishkek, Aug. 19, 2022 / Kabar /. A walking march of people with disabilities has started today in Cholpon-Ata.
Speaking at the event, Minister of Labour, Social Protection and Migration of Kyrgyzstan Kudaibergen Bazarbaev noted that today about 200 thousand Kyrgyz people with disabilities live in the country, of which 35 thousand are children under 18 years old.
“Today, maximum attention is paid to this category of citizens. President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov doubled allowances for children and adults with disabilities. Benefits for children from low-income families have increased by 50%.
In addition, the construction of state rehabilitation centers has begun. Adults and children with disabilities receive various rehabilitation services from NGOs, to which the ministry provides funds through the state social order,” the minister said.
The march is held under the slogan "Nothing for us without us!" at the initiative of the Union of People with Disabilities "Equality".
About 40 people take part in it. They will walk 135 km from Cholpon-Ata to Karakol. The purpose of the march is to reduce stereotypes and stigma against persons with disabilities.
