Chairman of Kyrgyzstan’s Cabinet of Ministers Ulukbek Maripov met on Thursday with UN Assistant Secretary General, Assistant Administrator of the UN Development Program, Director of the UNDP Regional Bureau for Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent State (CIS) Mirjana Spoljaric Egger.
The head of the Cabinet of Ministers notet Kyrgyzstan attaches great importance to cooperation with UNDP.
"The Cabinet of Ministers expresses its appreciation for the support provided by the UN Development Program in various spheres. We intend to further expand joint work on all issues of mutual interest," he said.
During the meeting, the issues of further interaction and cooperation in eliminating the consequences of the events at the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border were raised.
Ulukbek Maripov emphasized the importance of implementing projects in the development of border settlements in Batken Oblast.
"In particular, the establishment of highly efficient irrigation systems, modern methods of farming, processing industry, construction of infrastructure facilities are required,” he said.
The head of the Cabinet of Ministers also touched on climate change and the preservation of glaciers.
"We intend to monitor the condition of glaciers with the help of international partners. We are also working on the issue of putting forward an initiative to the UN to declare 2022 as the International Year of Mountains and to hold the Second Bishkek Global Mountain Summit ("Bishkek + 20") within its framework," he said.
Mirjana Spoljaric Egger expressed readiness to assist the Kyrgyz Republic in improving public services to the population, in the development of green economy, digital transformation, financing of development projects, including the development of social institutions in the field of human rights.
The sides expressed readiness to further develop fruitful cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
