Mayor of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality intends to perpetuate Aitmatov’s name

Bishkek, June 10, 2020 / Kabar /. Mayor of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mansur Yavaş wrote on social network that he would like memorialize famous Kyrgyz writer Chingiz Aitmatov.

“I would like to memorialize the famous writer Chingiz Aitmatov, who shared the richness of Turkish culture with the world, in his own words: "A person learns goodness only from another person",” he wrote.

Chingiz Aitmatov is the most widely read and revered writer in the world. He is the third writer in the world by the number of translations after Shakespeare and Leo Tolstoy. His works are translated into 176 languages and published in 128 countries of the world with a circulation of more than 100 million copies. His works are included in curriculum of schools and higher educational institutions in many countries of the world.

When the Council of Ministers of Culture of Turkic-speaking countries planned to nominate a famous writer for the Nobel Prize at the end of May 2008, Abdullah Gul, the Turkish President of that time noted that Chingiz Aitmatov is a spiritual value and the conscience of the entire Turkic world, and his work has planetary significance. Unfortunately, the writer died in June 2008.
