Bishkek, Dec.2, 2019 /Kabar/. The First Asian Kyrgyz Kurosh Open Championship was held in Bishkek, the press service of the State Agency for Youth Affairs, Physical Culture and Sports of Kyrgyzstan said.
The tournament, attended by more than 100 representatives from 16 countries near and far abroad, took place on Nov. 28 at the Sports Palace named after Kaba uulu Kojomkul.
28 medals were drawn in seven weight categories.
Asangeldi Nurkazim uulu (up to 66 kg) and Bekturkan Kozhomuratov (up to 84 kg) won the competition.
Tynystan Suyunbekov (up to 60 kg), Sanzhar Amanov (up to 74 kg), Baiysh Tazhigul uulu (up to 96 kg) and Nurbek Kozhobekov (absolute weight category) climbed the second stage of the podium.
Tilek Kuralov (absolute weight category), Elaman Bazarbek uulu (up to 55 kg) and Tilek Kurapov (over 96 kg) became the third.
Kyrgyz Kurosh is one of the oldest national struggles of the Kyrgyz people.
Wrestlers stand opposite each other on a special carpet and hold the grip on the opponent's belt with both hands. In a fight, they are allowed to let the belt go with one hand for a short time. The winner of the bout will be the one who during the bout can throw the opponent on the shoulder blades.
