Bishkek, May 13, 2022. /Kabar/. Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to Italy Taalai Bazarbaev met with Speaker of the Italian Senate Maria Elizabetta Alberti Casellati, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan reported.
During the meeting, Bazarbaev informed his interlocutor about important political changes in Kyrgyzstan, drawing attention to the holding of early presidential and local elections, adoption of a new Constitution and introduction of a new form of government. The ambassador also reported on the results of the parliamentary elections, noting the positive assessment by international observers, including members of the Italian Parliament in the Council of Europe and OSCE missions.
The sides noted with satisfaction the intensification of Kyrgyz-Italian bilateral relations after the opening of the Kyrgyz Embassy in Italy in 2020.
Meanwhile, taking into account the significant role of inter-parliamentary cooperation in the development of bilateral cooperation, the ambassador and the speaker confirmed the intention to exchange visits between parliamentarians of the two countries. In particular, it was agreed to intensify cooperation between the relevant committees of the parliaments of Kyrgyzstan and Italy by holding meetings and exchange visits, as well as by forming friendship groups in the parliaments of both countries.
Ambassador Bazarbaev noted the importance of developing trade and economic, cultural and humanitarian ties, as well as the holding of joint events to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kyrgyzstan and Italy.
Casellati has been Speaker of the Senate since March 24, 2018, becoming the first woman in the history of Italy to hold this position (the second most important in the country), and the woman to reach the highest public office in Italian history.
