Meeting of Dzhumabekov with Acting Chairman of National Assembly of Azerbaijan

Bishkek, Dec.18, 2019. /Kabar/. Parliament delegation, led by Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic Dastanbek Dzhumabekov met with Acting Chairman of the Milli Majlis (National Assembly) of Azerbaijan Ogtay Asadov, the Parliament’s press service said Wednesday.

The sides discussed the current state of political and economic, cultural-humanitarian relations, as well as the issues of strengthening inter-parliamentary relations.

Dastanbek Dzhumabekov noted Kyrgyzstan is interested in developing relations in all spheres of life with brotherly Azerbaijan.

The Kyrgyz speaker also talked about opportunities for development of economic cooperation.

"Nowadays, the issues of opening direct flights and implementation of joint investment projects are topical. In particular, Kyrgyzstan, striving for effective external economic cooperation by creating favorable conditions for investors, is interested in Azerbaijani investments," said Dastanbek Dzhumabekov.

In addition, the speaker of the Kyrgyz Parliament expressed confidence in the fruitful results of the 9th Plenary Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic Speaking Countries (TURKPA), held these days in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Ogtay Asadov said such bilateral meetings contribute to strengthening ties between the states.

"In order to further promote bilateral relations, we need to harmonize legal acts not only in the sphere of trade and economic cooperation, but also in other areas within the framework of inter-parliamentary partnership," he added.

In the course of the meeting, the sides also exchanged views on the necessity of strengthening cooperation within the framework of different international organizations, including TURKPA.

Note that Parliamentary Delegation, headed by Speaker Dastanbek Dzhumabekov, takes part in the 9th Plenary Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-Speaking Countries (TURKPA).

The Plenary Session is held in Baku, Azerbaijan on Dec.17-19. The Kyrgyz delegation consists of 7 MPs.

The TURKPA in full, the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-Speaking Countries, is an international organization comprising some of the Turkic countries. It was founded on Nov.21, 2008 in Istanbul.

The General Secretariat is in Baku, Azerbaijan. The member countries are Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, and Turkmenistan. Since late 2018, Hungary is an observer.
