Meeting of individual members of SDPK held in Bishkek

Bishkek, Apr. 3, 2019. /Kabar/. The XVIII Congress of individual members of the SDPK (Social Democratic Party of Kyrgyzstan) took place at Abdimomunov Kyrgyz Drama Theater in Bishkek on Wednesday. At the meeting, the initiative to exclude ex-President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev, now the leader of the SDPK, from the political association and the demand that he step down were considered.

More than 300 party delegates from all regions of the country attended the event. In addition, among those present were members of the Parliament, independent experts, aksakals (the old and wise of the community), public and political figures.

According to the credentials committee of the party, a quorum was present at the congress, and the meeting was considered completely legitimate. The main purpose of today's event was to re-elect the party chairman, to hear the report of the current party chairman and to amend the party’s charter.

Reportedly, the main purpose of these measures is to clear the party of corrupt individuals led by Almazbek Atambayev, to revise the new course of the party. It is said that in the light of recent high-profile corruption cases where the names of Atambayev and his closest people are mentioned, a political movement called “SDPK without Atambayev” was formed within the SDPK, the purpose of which is to exclude Atambayev from SDPK.
