Dushanbe, Oct. 12, 2018. /Kabar/. A meeting of the Heads of Government Council of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member countries in a narrow format has started in Dushanbe. The event began with handshakes of the heads of delegations of the SCO member states with the participation of Prime Minister of Tajikistan Kokhir Rasulzoda.
The meeting is attended by Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Mukhammedkalyi Abylgaziev.
In his opening remarks, the head of the government of Tajikistan noted that the meeting would allow to discuss important issues.
“We adhere to the principles of continuity and close interaction with the member states and the permanently operating bodies of the SCO, we have made efforts to achieve the goals set and the tasks set by the heads of state. Such joint activities contributed to strengthening and further development of cooperation within the organization and enhancement of its role and place in regional and international affairs, in developing and adopting new documents, and much more,” Kokhir Rasulzoda said.
He also noted that this meeting will allow to discuss issues of practical interaction aimed at expanding economic and humanitarian cooperation within the SCO.
Following the meeting, the heads of government will decide on the development of an updated version of the program of multilateral economic cooperation.
According to the current program, the main areas of cooperation within the SCO are energy, transport, telecommunications, agriculture, tourism, credit and banking, water and environmental areas, as well as the promotion of direct contact between small and medium-scale businesses.
“Taking into account the importance and relevance of these areas, as well as the existing cooperation potential, we believe that when developing the updated program, the document should incorporate joint investment projects of an infrastructure nature,” Rasulzoda stressed.
