Meeting of TURKPA Commission on Social, Cultural, and Humanitarian Issues takes place in Bishkek

Bishkek, Sept. 14, 2018. /Kabar/. The 4th meeting of the Commission on Social, Cultural, and Humanitarian Issues of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic Speaking Countries (TURKPA) took place in Bishkek. A discussion on the topic “Cinema and Animation in Turkic-speaking States as a Part of Turkic Cultural Heritage (Demonstration and Extended Aspects)” was held at the meeting.

Chairman of the TURKPA Commission on Social, Cultural, and Humanitarian Issues Sadyk Sher-Niyaz, opening the commission’s meeting, took note of the importance of integrity of information space. "Cinema not only shows the mentality, culture, and traditions of Turkic-speaking peoples, but also has its influence on personality development through cartoons and further films. That is why, the role of cinema and animation is significant as a means of bringing up the future generations", he said.

Deputy Chairperson of the Commission, member of the Azerbaijani Parliament Sevinc Huseynova presented her report. She noted that the matters of distributing and showing films and animation of Turkic-speaking states should be reflected in legislative acts. Stressing the importance of joint efforts in developing this sphere, Sevinc Huseynova pointed out the need for state support.

Member of the commission, member of the Turkish Parliament Mustafa Canbey considers that the main element of the interaction between peoples is cinema and animation. Member of the Kazakhstani Parliament Dinar Nuketaeva expressed support for the initiative of filmmakers, script writers, animation artists of Turkic-speaking states of creating an international Internet portal, a fund for supporting cinema and animation, organizing a festival.

Filmmaking professionals of Turkey noted that as a result of the state legislative support the number of domestic films and cartoons had rapidly increased. Sadyk Sher-Niyaz considers that distribution of films and animation among Turkic-speaking states should be legislated, and pointed out the importance of support from state bodies.

The event was attended by parliamentary delegations of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey.
