Bishkek, May 7, 2019. / Kabar /. The Kyrgyz Society of Culture and Friendship in Istanbul with the assistance of the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in Turkey organized a memorial event at the memorial Kyrgyzlar Turbiesi in Iznik, which was attended by Kyrgyz citizens living in Istanbul, Ankara, Bursa and other cities of Turkey, as well as representatives of local authorities.
Within the event Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to Turkey Kubanychbek Omuraliev met with Mayor of Iznik Kagan Mehmet Usta and Head of the Iznik district Bulent Bayraktar.
Omuraliev and Usta noted the need to write more detailed information about Kyrgyz warriors in the tourist booklets about Iznik, close cooperation between Iznik and the twin city of Talas.
The sides also agreed to conduct joint research of Kyrgyz and Turkish historians on the basis of the Faculty of History of Bursa University in order to publish a scientific publication and conduct a conference in 2020 in Iznik, dedicated to the Kyrgyz warriors, who fell in battles for the capture of Iznik in the 13th century.
Iznik (the ancient name is Niсеa) is located 120 km south of Istanbul. On the territory of modern Iznik, at the intersection of three roads, there is a kumbez, known to locals as the Kyrgyzlar Turbesi or Memorial to the Kyrgyz warriors who fell in the battles for the capture of Iznik in the 13th century.
