Bishkek, Apr. 23, 2020. /Kabar/. Kyrgyzstan’s Minister of Culture, Information and Tourism Azamat Jamankulov took part in online meeting of culture ministers of UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) member states.
According to the press service of the Kyrgyz Culture Ministry, at the meeting, Minister Jamankulov spoke about the work done in the state of emergency in the republic in the sphere of culture.
"During the meeting, the establishment of a platform for regular dialogue with Ministers of Culture, managed by UNESCO, was discussed in order to initiate a general reflection on the impact of the health crisis on the cultural sector on a global scale and to encourage the exchange of experiences between the countries that were first affected and those where the crisis is still developing, in order to guide preventive measures and to anticipate or mitigate the impact of the crisis through a preliminary assessment of the impact of COVID-19 on culture and the cultural sector at the national level,” the report says.
Over 130 Ministers and Vice-Ministers of Culture joined the online meeting convened by UNESCO to discuss actions to bolster the cultural sector, which is facing unprecedented upheaval due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the press service of the Organization said.
The ministers spoke of the direct effects of the current crisis on tourism, museums, cultural production and artists, as well as the measures that they have taken to mitigate the impact of the crisis. They reaffirmed their commitment to intergovernmental dialogue and international solidarity in order to strengthen and unite their efforts.
