Bishkek, Mar. 19, 2019. /Kabar/. Minister of Labor and Social Development Ulukbek Kochkorov and Assistant Representative of FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization) in the Kyrgyz Republic Dinara Rakhmanova discussed priority areas for further cooperation, the ministry’s press service reported.
At the meeting, it was noted that in April of this year, evaluation of the implementation of the Productive Social Contract/Cash Plus pilot project in Bagysh aiyl okrug, Suzak region, Jalal-Abad oblast, will begin. The project aims to increase the production capacity and economic potential of rural households who receive a monthly low-income benefit, as well as to improve the nutrition of vulnerable families through a flexible combination of cash benefits with production activities, resources, assets, training and distribution of agricultural knowledge.
The Minister said that in rural areas there is a serious issue of women's employment. “We know that FAO has been supporting the Entrepreneurship of Rural Women of Kyrgyzstan project for several years for the purposes of improving the welfare of women and their families. Another priority direction “Women's Economic Empowerment” of the National Action Plan on Gender Equality 2018-2020 is aimed at helping to reduce the number of economically inactive women of working age through engaging them in work activities,” Kochkorov said.
In addition, he informed that the other day President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sooronbay Jeenbekov had signed the Law of the Kyrgyz Republic on Ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. “In the implementation of the Convention, we will need the help of our development partners with extensive experience in this area. The Ministry has developed a three-year plan, which we propose to realize with our partners,” he said.
