Ministers of Transport of Kyrgyzstan and Qatar discuss enhancing cooperation

Bishkek, Jan. 24, 2018 / Kabar /. Minister of Transport and Roads of Kyrgyzstan Zhamshitbek Kalilov met in Doha with Minister of Transport and Communications of the State of Qatar Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti, the press service of the Ministry of Transport of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.

During the talks, the sides discussed the issues of further expansion of the Kyrgyz-Qatar cooperation, in particular in the field of transport connection and transit of goods between the two countries. Kalilov briefed on the efforts being undertaken in the country to develop domestic and international transport systems, focusing on the prospects for road, rail and aviation connectivity of the Kyrgyz Republic with other regions of the world. In this context, he noted the importance of creating a transport corridor Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Qatar in order to expand trade and economic relations between these states.

From his part, the Minister of Transport and Communications of the State of Qatar expressed interest in enhancing bilateral cooperation in the field of all modes of transport. He stressed the need to create a transit corridor for the transport of goods between the two countries, noting their willingness to initiate an appropriate agreement.

Following the talks, the ministers signed an agreement between the governments of Kyrgyzstan and the State of Qatar on air communication.

Zhamshitbek Kalilov also held meetings with head of the Qatar Airways Akbar Al-Baker, and chief executive officer of the Qatar Port Authority Abdullah Al-Khanji.

During the talks, issues of development of the Kyrgyz-Qatar cooperation in the field of transport connection were discussed. The sides noted the importance of creating transport corridors between the two countries, both for passenger transportation and cargo delivery. In addition, at the meetings, opportunities for implementing joint investment projects were considered.
