Bishkek, Sept. 26, 2023. /Kabar/. The Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Kyrgyz Republic spoke about the current state of implementation of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway construction project.
The China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway construction project is a strategic project in the field of construction and infrastructure of the Kyrgyz Republic. The project is currently at the activation stage. Thus, by July 2023, the project participants jointly completed work on the feasibility study of the project, and as expected, the technical feasibility and economic viability of the construction of this railway line was confirmed.
On September 21, 2023, a tripartite meeting at the expert level took place via videoconference, during which the issue of the financing and project management model was discussed. It is worth noting that the implementation of this project is important not only for the Kyrgyz Republic, but also for the Central Asian region as a whole. The project, by reducing the distance and time of cargo delivery, will increase the competitiveness of the participating countries in the international transit transportation market. The construction of the road will have a multiplier effect on the development of other sectors of the economy.
A trilateral Memorandum of Understanding was signed on May 18-19 in the city of Xi’an (People’s Republic of China) on the sidelines of the China - Central Asia Summit, which took place between the State Committee for Development and Reform of the People’s Republic of China, the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Kyrgyz Republic Republic, the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan on achieving a common understanding on a trilateral joint assessment of the feasibility study for the construction project of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway (section on the territory of Kyrgyzstan).”
