Tashkent, Oct.22, 2019. /Kabar/. For the first time in the history of Uzbekistan, yesterday, Oct. 21 Tashkent city congress hall hosted the solemn event in honor of the 30th anniversary of granting the Uzbek language the status of the state.
In his speech, Uzbek leader Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted the need to further enhance the authority of the state language in the life of the state and society, improve the law “On the state language” on the basis of today's requirements, and identified pressing issues in this area.
He announced Oct. 21 as Uzbek Language Day in the country. This day will be the day of annual festivities throughout the country.
“Today, thanks to the implementation of the policy of tolerance, the representatives of more than 130 nations and ethnic groups, living in Uzbekistan as a single family, are creating the necessary conditions for the development of their native language, culture, customs and traditions. This is exactly what the work of about 140 national cultural centers in Tashkent and on the grounds is aimed at,” the Uzbek leader said.
Today, educational institutions and the country's mass media, in addition to the Uzbek language, also operate in Karakalpak, Russian, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Tajik and Turkmen languages.
Uzbek language, which is part of a large family of Turkic languages, is one of the largest in the world. Almost 50 million people speak it in the world.
