Mogherini tells in which areas EU ready to expand cooperation with Central Asia

Brussels, Nov. 21, 2018 / Kabar /. /. The European Union hosts a Week of Central Asia. In this regard, journalists from all 5 Central Asian countries arrived in Brussels, capital of the European Union to familiarize with EU activities. In addition, the foreign ministers of all countries of the European Union discussed the future plans for Central Asia.

In addition, at the end of the week, a meeting of the foreign ministers of Central Asia will be held with the EU High Commissioner for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini.

During a briefing on the results of the meeting of EU foreign ministers on Nov. 20, Mogherini said that today the focus on Central Asia will be mainly on human resources, namely, on youth development.

“There are issues that we want to raise, these are issues of sustainable development. It is associated with the economy, the environment and global warming. There are also young people. Every year 1 million people come to the labor market. In this regard, the focus will be on young people and this is not only education. Working with young people will help in the fight against extremism. We will continue to support the Erasmus program. There was even an idea to implement this program within Central Asia,” she noted.

Mogherini said that in addition to youth issues in Central Asia there is a big issue of water resources.

The High Commissioner stated that the EU member states are ready to expand cooperation with Central Asia, in the regional plan these are issues of water diplomacy.

"In addition, EU countries can find a way to security on the issue of Afghanistan," she concluded.
