Monument to Chingiz Aitmatov to be erected in Turkish city of Elazig

Bishkek, May 16, 2022 / Kabar /. A monument to Kyrgyz writer Chingiz Aitmatov will be erected in the Turkish city of Elazig. This became known during a working visit of Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to Turkey Kubanychbek Omuraliev to the city of Elazig.

The press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic said that within the framework of a working visit to the city of Elazyg, an event was held in memory of Aitmatov with the participation of Ambassador Omuraliev, cultural and literary figures, journalists, as well as citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic living in the city.

During the event, a documentary prepared by representatives of culture and literature of the Elazig province was shown about the stay of the Kyrgyz writer in Elazig in 2007 and his participation in the Khazar Poetry Festival, during which a park was opened in his honor. The participants of the event shared warm memories of the meeting with Chingiz Aitmatov, noting that this visit was historical.

In conclusion, the sides agreed to jointly erect a monument to the writer in the aforementioned park.

Further, Omuraliev held a separate meeting with the citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic, during which issues of protecting their rights and interests were discussed, and answers were provided to their questions.

In addition, as part of a working trip to the city of Elazig, Omuraliev met with the governor of the province, Omer Toraman, and the mayor of the city, Shahin Sherifogullary.

The parties noted the need to expand trade, economic and investment cooperation between the countries, in particular, at the regional level. As part of the development of the regions of Kyrgyzstan, the establishment of closer cooperation and the exchange of experience, the parties agreed to establish twinning relations between Elazig and one of the cities of Kyrgyzstan and organize mutual visits of heads of local authorities, business circles, cultural figures and scientists.

At the end of the meeting, the ambassador expressed a request to the heads of local authorities to provide maximum assistance to the citizens of Kyrgyzstan in their comfortable stay.
