Monument to doctors who died in fight against COVID-19 erected in Bishkek

Bishkek, Oct. 19, 2021 / Kabar /. A grand opening of a monument to doctors who died in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic was held in Bishkek on Tuesday.

State Secretary of Kyrgyzstan Suyunbek Kasmambetov, Deputy Minister of Health of the country Zhalalidin Rakhmatullaev, Deputy Minister of Education and Science Nurlan Omurov, Vice Mayor of Bishkek for Social Issues Victoria Mozgacheva, prominent doctors, townspeople, relatives and relatives of the deceased doctors take part in the solemn event.

Speaking at the ceremony Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Rakhatbek Omorov, who initiated the construction of the monument, said that by this monument they wanted to draw public attention to the problems of medical workers, as well as pay tribute to those who died from COVID-19.

“The memorial was erected on the alley in front of the main building of Kyrgyz Medical Academy, since most of the deceased were graduates of this facility. The monument consists of two figures - a doctor and a nurse, who are fighting for the lives of patients with COVID-19,” he said.

In addition, the monument bears a line from the Hippocratic oath: "Shining to others, I burn myself!"

At the same time, Secretary of State Suyunbek Kasmambetov in his speech also paid tribute to the doctors who died in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Many of them gave their lives to help their people. To this day, doctors working in the red zone do not see their relatives and friends for months. This monument is a small gratitude to those to whom many of us owe our lives - doctors. Despite all the difficulties, they are currently still at the forefront of the fight against COVID-19,” he said.

After the grand opening, flowers were laid at the memorial and a concert organized by the students of the academy took place in memory of the medical workers who gave their lives in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

It should be noted that in connection with the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the independence of the Kyrgyz Republic, in recognition of the special merits of the medical university to the state, the medical academy was awarded the Dank order.

Since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, 180,006 COVID-19 cases have been registered, of which 6,866 are health workers. In total, more than 100 health workers have died from COVID-19.
