Bishkek, Sept. 2, 2021. / Kabar /. 1 million 678 thousand people lived below the poverty line in 2020, says in the National Statistical Committee's Newsletter on Food Security and Poverty of the Kyrgyz Republic.
According to the document, the results of assessments of measuring the well-being of the population in the Kyrgyz Republic were made by the National Statistical Committee on the basis of data from a sample integrated survey of household budgets and labor force with a quarterly coverage of 4,993 households.
The results of the survey show that the poverty rate in 2020, calculated in terms of consumer spending, in the country as a whole amounted to 25.3 percent, having increased by 5.2 percentage points compared to the previous year.
To assess the poverty level, the 2019 poverty line was used as a threshold, indexed by the average annual consumer price index.
The cost value of the general poverty line in 2020 was 35,268 soms per year per capita, the extreme - 19,774 soms.
The poverty rate in rural areas increased by 6.1 percentage points, and in urban areas - by 3.6 percentage points.
In 2020, 1 million 678 thousand people lived below the poverty line, of which 73.7 percent were residents of rural settlements.
