More than 3 mn women to celebrate March 8 in Kyrgyzstan – interesting statistics

On March 8, International Women's Day, 3 million 154.9 thousand representatives of the fairer half of humanity in Kyrgyzstan will celebrate their holiday, the staff of the National Statistics Committee, along with congratulations, presented interesting facts about female compatriots.

- The proportion of women in the total population of the republic has remained unchanged over a long period of time – 50.4%;

- Two thirds of the female population of the republic are rural residents; every fifth woman lives in Jalal-Abad or Osh oblasts, and every sixth woman lives in Bishkek;

- The employment rate for women of working age is 47.6%. The average age of employed women is 38 years. Every sixth woman employed in the country's economy is aged 25-29. Predominantly “female” are such activities as “public health and social services”, “education”, “hotels and restaurants”, “wholesale and retail trade”.

- In 2017, 43.4 thousand women entered into marriage. Women prefer to start families at the age of 18 - 25. In this case, 40.9 thousand women have started families for the first time. Every second woman who entered into marriage was at the age of 20 - 24, every fifth - at the age of 18 - 19, or at the age of 25-29. The average age for first marriage of women in 2017 was 23.7, the indicator for the second one was 35.8.

- In 2017, life expectancy at birth was 75.4 years for girls and 67.2 years for boys. Thus, as before, there is a gender gap in the average life expectancy of 8 years. The gap in life expectancy is due to differences in the level of mortality of the genders: the mortality of men is 1.5-1.6 times higher than the mortality of women. The probability to live to retirement age for women is 90 percent, for men – more than 70 percent. Contemporary 60-year-old women are likely to live for another 20 years, men for about 15 years.
