More than 3 thsd citizens of Kyrgyzstan work in South Korea

Bishkek, Feb. 26, 2019. /Kabar/. Since 2007, 3,331 citizens of Kyrgyzstan have left for work in the Republic of Korea, Deputy Director of the Information and Consultation Center at the State Migration Service of the Kyrgyz Republic Almaz Alybayev told during a press conference at the Kabar News Agency.

He said that on July 24, 2007, a Memorandum was signed, approved by order of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic of July 13, 2007 No. 167 between the State Committee on Migration and Employment of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Korean Ministry of Employment and Labor on sending workers to Korea under the work permit issue program.

“During the term of the Memorandum of Understanding, 12 tests of knowledge of the Korean language were conducted, in which 15 thousand 44 people took part. 3 thousand 31 people were sent to work. The term of the Memorandum is 2 years and updates are required after this period. Thus, since the moment of signing, the Memorandum was updated four times – in 2010, 2012, 2015 and in 2018,” Alybayev said.

He also noted that within the framework of the concluded Memorandum, the provisions of the Law on Labor Standards, the Law on Labor Protection and Minimum Wages extend to citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic working in Korea, are also covered by insurance against accidents at work, insurance against accidents (in the event of a non-work-related injuries car accident or injury, guaranteed insurance, in the event of the delay or non-payment of salary, bankruptcy) and medical insurance are provided for.

“On average, the basic salary of those who left for work is from $ 1,200 or more without allowances at an 8–9 hour day. Accommodation and meals are provided by the employer,” Alybayev added.
