Bishkek, Sept. 25, 2020. /Kabar/. Employees of the State Agency for Environmental Protection and Forestry (SAEPF) conducted a large-scale environmental action within the World Cleanup Day to clean up Issyk-Kul Lake, as well as natural parks and reserves in Kyrgyzstan, the press service of the Agency reported Friday.
The main goal of the environmental action is to attract public and youth attention to the conservation of Kyrgyzstan's unique ecosystem and biodiversity.
As part of the activities, work was carried out to remove debris from the bottom of the lake, as well as in the coastal areas of Issyk-Kul Lake from sediments and household garbage.
As a result more than 1 ton of garbage and more than 100 pieces of ownerless fishing nets of different sizes were collected from the bottom of the lake itself and on the beach areas of villages. The activities were held with the participation of divers. Mainly fishing nets, plastic bottles and various bags were taken from the bottom of the lake.
"Low price and wide availability of nets lead to the fact that fishermen do not clean them even after the catch is over. Abandoned nets pose a danger to migratory birds and other lake inhabitants," the press service of the Environmental Protection Agency said.
In addition, the underwater and coastal zone of e Issyk-Kul was cleaned and removed from garbage, solid domestic and other waste. As a result, more than 5 tons of various garbage and solid domestic waste were collected.
"Similar environmental actions within the World Cleanup Day were held on behalf of SAEPF Head Mirslav Amankulov in all natural parks and reserves of Kyrgyzstan in strict compliance with all sanitary norms and requirements due the epidemiological situation in the country. SAEPF employees have collected over 100 thousand kg of various types of garbage and solid waste was collected on the day of the action,” the report says .
