Most Kyrgyzstanis keep their savings in cash: WB study

Bishkek, Dec.12, 2024. /Kabar/. Cash remains the most preferred way of saving among Kyrgyzstanis, but there is an increase in the number of savings in bank accounts, the World Bank study “Listening to the Kyrgyz Republic” said.

According to the document, the som (national currency) is the most preferred currency for savings.

Despite the stagnation of incomes in July-October 2024, the level of financial security continues to improve: the share of financially secure households increased from 33% to 75%.

Accumulated savings and increased household financial stability supported consumption levels despite income stagnation.

This survey has been conducted by the World Bank on a monthly basis since December 2021. It provides insight into how people assess their well-being and mood. The results help to identify key trends and challenges faced by households, as well as to track changes in public opinion.
